In 2007, Van
Cleef & Arpels presented a romantic timepiece for women called “Pont des
Amoureux”, which means lover’s bridge. As its name implies, it shows a French
bridge going over a river in Annecy, a town which is also known as the Venice
of France. This very special watch is not focusing on utility, but definitely
on poetry and emotion. At first sight, you might notice artistic craftsmanship
combined with jewelry components, but taking a closer look, you might as well
be able to find all the tiny details that are undoubtedly made with love

But now, let’s focus on the story the watch tells us: two figures travel along the dial to display the time. The first figure is a woman with an umbrella indicating the hours; the second figure is a man holding a flower behind his back pointing to the minutes. As time passes, the two figures get closer and finally, at 12 o’clock, the two lovers meet at the center and kiss.
Even though the concept seems quite simple, it is in fact a masterpiece of engineering. Maybe this is also one of the reasons why Cleef & Arpels received numerous international awards such as the Times Square Magazine Award of Design Watch for the “Best Jewelry Watch” in 2010.
As you might now be interested in saving up one of those beautiful ladies watches for yourself, it might also be useful to know that they can be purchased for no less than $116,000.
