Glashütte - Germany’s most famous watch brand

Even though the watches of Switzerland are undoubtedly the most famous and prestigious ones in the world, there also are other countries with a strong watch making industry. One example is Germany (http://journal.hautehorlogerie.org/en/article/fine-watchmaking-made-in-germany-1/), where the luxury watchmaking company Glashütte Original was founded. Glashütte watchmaking can look back on more than 165 years of successful watchmaking tradition. In order to create an independent Saxon watch industry, Glashütte was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph. In the early days, the company was supported by the Saxon government and joined by famous watchmakers with innovative ideas. Currently, Glashütte Original is owned by The Swatch Group.

On their way to growing even bigger, Glashütte doesn’t stop to open modern factories. One of the latest ones has been opened in the German city of Pforzheim, where the manufactory’s own production of watch dials takes place on a surface of 1.300 square meters. There are currently 48 employees working for Glashütte in Pforzheim, in the coming years, the number is expected to double.
