Glashütte - Germany’s most famous watch brand

Even though the watches of Switzerland are undoubtedly the most famous and prestigious ones in the world, there also are other countries with a strong watch making industry. One example is Germany (http://journal.hautehorlogerie.org/en/article/fine-watchmaking-made-in-germany-1/), where the luxury watchmaking company Glashütte Original was founded. Glashütte watchmaking can look back on more than 165 years of successful watchmaking tradition. In order to create an independent Saxon watch industry, Glashütte was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph. In the early days, the company was supported by the Saxon government and joined by famous watchmakers with innovative ideas. Currently, Glashütte Original is owned by The Swatch Group.

On their way to growing even bigger, Glashütte doesn’t stop to open modern factories. One of the latest ones has been opened in the German city of Pforzheim, where the manufactory’s own production of watch dials takes place on a surface of 1.300 square meters. There are currently 48 employees working for Glashütte in Pforzheim, in the coming years, the number is expected to double.

Omega Olympic Collection Sochi 2014

As the Swiss luxury watch brand Omega is the official Olympic timekeeper, three special edition wristwatches were created to honor the 2014 Olympic Winter Games which will be held in Sochi, Russia on February 7 – 23. The special editions are inspired by the colors of the Russian flag as well as the Olympic spirit.

The first piece of the Sochi 2014 Limited Edition is the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5mm. As a tribute to the flag of the Russian Federation, the white dot at 12 o’clock is followed by blue minute markers for minutes 1-5 and red markers for minutes 6-10. The Olympic logo of Sochi 2014 is engraved in the caseback where the owner can also find the limited edition number.

The next timepiece of the Limited Edition, an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 37.5mm, is ideally sized for women. The watch itself is white as snow and as the one before inspired by the flag of the Russian Federation. On its back, the Sochi 2014 Olympic logo and the engraved limited edition number can be found.
